The Penguins are set to face the Canadiens tomorrow, and Montreal may unexpectedly let Jacob Fowler make his NHL debut in net vs. Pittsburgh.

December has been rough for the Montreal Canadiens, and the team is making moves to shake things up. Montreal has recalled forward Owen Beck, defenceman Adam Engstrom, and goaltender Jacob Fowler from the Laval Rocket.
The move follows a 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where both Canadiens goaltenders struggled. Jakub Dobes allowed three goals on 11 shots before being pulled, while Samuel Montembeault gave up three goals on 10 shots.

What the Canadiens save percentage is currently like

Together, they hold a .885 save percentage, the second-lowest in the NHL behind the Edmonton Oilers.
Fowler has been a standout in the AHL, posting a .920 save percentage with a 10-5-0 record, including three shutouts. He has been a key factor in Laval holding first place in the North Division.
NHL insider Eric Engels reports Montreal may give Fowler his NHL debut tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Penguins, signaling the team's willingness to try a new approach in goal.
"I fully expect to see Jacob Fowler make his NHL debut tomorrow vs. the Penguins."

Why Jacob Fowler may not be able to save the Canadiens

Despite Fowler's strong performance in the AHL, the Canadiens' defensive struggles remain. Montreal continues to allow high-danger scoring chances at a rate among the league's worst.
Goaltending has been a major issue, but it is far from the only factor in recent one-sided losses.
Giving Fowler an NHL start during a difficult stretch carries risk, but it could provide a spark for the team. The Canadiens are searching for stability, and Fowler's potential debut represents a bold step toward addressing their challenges in goal.
