San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier asking for insane package for dman
San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier is reportedly asking for a ridiculous package as teams show interest in Mario Ferraro
With plenty of cash to spend and a willingness to trade players to strengthen their blue line, the San Jose Sharks could make for an exciting club to watch this summer.
Defenseman Mario Ferraro, who was said to be leaving the Northern California city, is one of those players whom the San Jose Sharks are apparently inclined to trading this summer. However, nothing came of it.
If the San Jose Sharks decide to trade him this summer, David Pagnotta reports that they may want for a package that includes a first-round selection, a top prospect, and another valuable asset.
"I am not sure what type of return the Sharks want for Ferraro, but if they go the package route, I would imagine a first-round draft pick is part of the ask, along with a top-ranked prospect and possibly another high asset. And given his attractive cap hit, it's understandable why Grier would hold firm." Pagnotta said.
Ferraro is without a doubt a strong defenseman with leadership abilities who could one day lead the National Hockey League as captain. It's a little ridiculous, though, that the Sharks would be able to get a first round selection, a top prospect, and another valuable asset in exchange for the 25-year-old, especially when taking into account his cap burden.
Pagnotta continued by saying that Toronto, Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Nashville, and Calgary are among the teams who have shown interest in Mario Ferraro since before the March 8th trade deadline.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks are among the teams believed to have varying levels of interest in Ferraro, some going back to the middle of the season." Pagnotta said.
The Toronto, Ontario native Ferraro made his Sharks debut in 78 games this season, scoring a career-high 21 points (three goals, 18 assists), totaling 36 penalty minutes, and finishing minus-38.
Given the level of interest in Mario Ferraro, it seems likely that the Sharks will move him this summer. However, if they do, don't be shocked if the return is far less than a first round choice, a top prospect, and another valuable asset.
