Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin have been in a heated but friendly rivalry since their rookie seasons back in 2005-06.

While Crosby might have three Stanley Cups to Ovechkin's one, there is no denying that Ovi has one-upped Crosby in one category. Of course, we are talking about goals. In fact, Ovechkin has an opportunity this season to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL scoring record. Although it is more likely that he break it during the season after.
While speaking to reporters, Crosby gave his honest thoughts on Ovi potentially getting the record. As you will see, his comments are quite interesting and speak to his respect for the legendary Capitals superstar.

"It's really cool,» Crosby said. «To be able to play in the same division, to have had the history that we have over the years to come in at the same time with pretty high expectations and to see him this close to what was thought to be an untouchable record, it's incredible what he's doing. I feel grateful to be part of that."

Ovechkin needs 41 more goals to tie the record. He currently sits at 853 goals while Gretzky is at 894. However, once he does break the record, we're sure that Ovi will be looking to hit 900 to really create some distance. As for 1000 goals, well, that seems pretty out of the question at this point.
Do you believe that Ovechkin will some day break the record? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world. We will continue to keep you informed on your favorite players and teams.
