Sidney Crosby is done for the game, and Team Canada just lost its heartbeat in Milano Cortina 2026.
The update Wednesday is blunt and scary.
Crosby will not return.
That matters even more after the earlier sequence where he laboured his right leg following contact.
Canada can survive shifts without him, but winning a quarterfinal without him is a different problem.
The message coming out now is that the bench is turning the page to damage control.

If this is a lower-body issue, every stride becomes a question.
Even a short shift later in the tournament would carry real risk.
Sidney Crosby forces Team Canada to improvise
This feels like the whole fanbase going quiet at once, because you know exactly how fast a tournament can turn.
Without Crosby, Canada loses its best safety valve down low and its cleanest puck touch under pressure.
The top-six can still score, but the matchups get harder when you do not have Crosby taking the brutal minutes.
It also changes the penalty kill vibe, because he reads exits like a coach and turns chaos into a clear.
Now the staff has to juggle faceoff assignments and late-game trust.
Radko Gudas does not have to fight you, he just has to make you uncomfortable, and that is what this hit did.
The next milestone is simple, the next medical update, and whether Canada can win tonight without its captain.
