The St. Louis Blues have waived forward Alexandre Texier today, while the Buffalo Sabres have placed winger Mason Geertsen on the waiver wire.

Alexandre Texier has been waived by the Blues on Thursday, as reported by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. It was reported by Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic this morning that the Blues were likely going to make this move.
That wasn't the only player to hit waivers, as left-winger Mason Geertsen of the Sabres was also waived today.

What led to Mason Geertsen being placed on waivers

Geertsen was scratched for the 15th time in 20 games in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Flames, which led many to believe his time with the club was nearing an end.
Geertsen played in four of the first six games of the year, but the 30-year-old hasn't carved out a regular role despite a tough stretch of injuries for the Sabres.
Even when he plays, he's averaged barely 4:07 of ice time over five appearances while adding eight hits and 12 PIM.
He's failed to record a single point in 30 NHL outings, and the defenseman-turned-winger is unlikely to ever produce offence at the level necessary to keep in a regular NHL role.

Why Alexandre Texier was placed on waivers

Turning our attention back to Texier, Blues' Jake Neighbours, our with a leg injury, is slated to return to the lineup Thursday against the Flyers, and Texier was set to lose his spot on the roster as a result, which is why he was waived.
However, if Texier clears waivers, he's expected to be assigned to AHL Springfield and could receive a call-up in the future.
Over eight appearances with the Blues this year, Texier has not scored a goal, recorded just one assist, has nine hits, a blocked shot and two PIM while averaging 10:15 of ice time.
In under 24 hours, we will find out whether any of these two players have a new place to call home.
