Former Pittsburgh Penguins Forward Traded to Chicago Blackhawks

Every team around the NHL figures to be rather busy today as organizations add to their teams with free agent players.

Granted, this year's crop of free agents is rather thin, especially since Mitch Marner was delt in a sign-and-trade to the Vegas Golden Knights yesterday.

With that move, the Knights will likely have little to do today as they have very little cap room left to make any moves.

That is not the case for the Buffalo Sabres, who came into today with around 20 million dollars in cap room, and only added to that by trading former Penguin Sam Lafferty to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 6th round draft pick.

Lafferty was a 4th round pick of the Penguins back in 2014 and played in parts of three seasons for the team, totaling 94 games played with 6 goals and 21 points scored in that span.

He has since played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

In total, he has appeared in 349 regular-season NHL games, and has a total of 40 goals and 90 points in his career.

Now he will get a second chance to play in Chicago, where he will be part of the supporting cast for Connor Bedard as the team attempts to start climbing up the standings.

Although Lafferty is hardly a difference maker on the ice, Blackhawks fans seem happy to have another familiar face joining the team.
