Penguins Complete Trade With Arch-Rival Capitals
The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals completed a trade a few hours ahead of the deadline.
Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news:
This season, Beauvillier, 27, scored 20 points, including 13 goals, in 63 games with the Penguins.
The forward is set to hit free agency this summer when his one-year, $1,250,000 contract comes to an end.
In his 613-game career, the forward, drafted 28th overall in 2015 by the New York Islanders, has played for the Isles, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, and Penguins.
Adding Beauvillier to their bottom-six will give the team much-needed depth in that area, a great move ahead of the playoffs.
After a disappointing elimination from last year's playoffs in the first round at the hands of the New York Rangers, Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals will look to make a much deeper run this season.
Currently holding on to the first spot in the Eastern Conference, the Caps are in a great position to achieve their goals.
As for the Penguins, they're either selling all their assets to prepare for the summer and get a high draft pick, or they could be preparing to make a bigger move ahead of the deadline to help
Sidney Crosby bounce back from their tough season in a desperate push for the playoffs.
It'll be interesting to see if Beauvillier takes part in his first game with his new team tonight, as the Capitals face the Detroit Red Wings in Washington.
Stay tuned for all the latest developments regarding the Penguins' deadline moves.
