Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas just made another trade ahead of Friday's trade deadline.
The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to sell of players as Friday's trade deadline looms ever closer.
As they currently sit in last place in the Metro Division, this strategy is not surprising.
That would be defenseman
Vincent Desharnais, who was sent to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2028 draft.
Desharnais wa acquired from the Vancouver Canucks earlier this season in the trade that sent Drew O'Connor and Marcus Pettersson across the continent.
He has appeared in 44 games split between the two clubs and has three assists, all with the Canucks.
He recorded zero points and had a -4 rating in ten games with the Penguins this season.
The Sharks are another team that is in the process of rebuilding, but they are much further along in that process than Pittsburgh.
Just last season they landed the first overall pick, adding
Macklin Celebrini to the organization, and he is already the team's leading scorer with 45 points through 51 games.
This season, the team is in line for another top-three pick at worst and potentially even another 1st overall prospect.
Desharnais has one year left on his contract after this one, so perhaps Sharks general manager Mike Grier is hoping to trade him next March for increased value.
