Today would have marked Johnny Gaudreau's 32nd birthday, and the Blue Jackets made a beautiful post on X to celebrate and commemorate this special day.

August 13 would have been Johnny Gaudreau's 32nd birthday, the former Columbus Blue Jackets winger who was tragically murdered last summer while biking with his brother Matthew.

Johnny Gaudreau Would Have Turned 32 Today

The Blue Jackets remembered him with a heartwarming social media post on Wednesday morning, as he would have turned 32 years old.
As the first anniversary of the death of the brothers approaches, their widows, Meredith and Madeline, are making their bereavement public.
"He kissed all of us goodbye -- just in the driveway at his parents' house. And that was the last time I saw him," Johnny's wife Meredith told ABC News in the interview.

"There's no healing when you didn't get a goodbye," Matthew Gaudreau's wife, Madeline Gaudreau, said.

Sean Higgins, the driver who was charged in the accident, entered a plea of not guilty to six charges. In April, his motion to dismiss the indictment was rejected by a judge.
Johnny and Meredith had two young children at the time of his death. At his funeral, it was announced that Meredith was pregnant with their third child. Matthew's wife, Madeline, was pregnant too and later gave birth to their son, Tripp.

During their interview, Madeline and Meredith discussed the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation.
According to the website of the foundation, it supports youth hockey associations, assists families who have experienced tragedy, and helps victims of drunk driving.
"We kind of spent the whole year really trying to take our time, do things right and we've already been able to accept a lot of donations," Meredith told NHL.com on Monday. "A lot of people have really spread the word, so we wanted to make sure we took our time."

Through their loss, the families believe the foundation will carry on Johnny and Matthew's love of hockey and their need to help others, ensuring their legacy carries on far beyond the ice.
