It's no secret that Connor McDavid, like almost all players in Canada grew up idolizing Sidney Crosby, and now it's been revealed how much he's copying his hero.
Connor McDavid's career has been nothing short of stellar thus far, and while he's yet to win a Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers, he's achieved everything there is to in the game of hockey.
Now, he's trying to achieve that one final thing, something that his idol Sidney Crosby has done three times in his career, with the Oilers captain making it no secret that he wants to emulate No. 87 in Pittsburgh.
Since winning the Western Conference on Thursday, it's been revealed just how much he wants to be like Crosby, as someone noted that the Penguins in 2008 did not touch their Conference Finals Trophy, but did so in 2009 before winning their first with that group against the Detroit Red Wings.
Not only that, but he looks to do a few things that only a few people in NHL history have done, as a Conn Smythe win in 2025 would see him join Crosby, Mario Lemieux and Bernie Parent as the only players to ever win it in back-to-back seasons.
On top of that, another chance at history could see him follow in the footsteps of No. 99 and No. 87 as players that lost in their first chance in the Stanley Cup Finals, only to turn around and win it the next season.
At this point in time, it's clear that McDavid is becoming one of the greatest and most accomplished players in NHL history, but given his lack of a Stanley Cup, many believe he hasn't yet passed Sidney Crosby, so perhaps he will do just that and pass his idol with a win over the Florida Panthers in 2025.
