Penguins goaltender Joel Blomqvist, who made the team out of Training Camp and was on the opening night roster, could have difficulty doing so again this year.
The Pittsburgh Penguins employed a trio of goaltenders this season, which resulted in not making the playoffs for the 3rd straight year.
While they were expected to enter the year with the tandem of Alex Nedeljkovic and Tristan Jarry, an injury to Nedeljkovic during Training Camp meant that rookie Joel Blomqvist earned a roster spot.
Blomqvist performed decently, even picking up a win in his 1st NHL start in October in a victory over the Detroit Red Wings.
But with both Jarry and Nedeljkovic set to enter Training Camp healthy if they encounter no problems during the summer, Blomqvist's chances of making the team to begin the year again could prove difficult.
Blomqvist was once again called up back to the Penguins after they waived Jarry, but he was eventually back down in the AHL.
He's out there early before practice and later after practice, working on his craft and getting better. It's going to go a long way, when he gets back in there. It's just going to look natural. We know that when he gets in the net, he's going to be there for us and come up with some big saves>
Blomqvist has an NHL record of 4-9-1 with a 3.81 GAA and a .885 SV%.
