Edmonton Oilers officially announce Leon Draisaitl's record-breaking contract
Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers had been in contract negotiations for weeks, and today, they finally agreed on a new deal.
Earlier this morning, we reported on how Draisaitl was moments away from signing his contract. Well, as it turns out, those reports were 100 percent accurate. Just moments ago, the Edmonton Oilers revealed that Draisaitl has officially signed an eight-year extension at an AAV of $14 million.
The contract will begin during the 2025-26 season, which means Draisaitl is locked up with the team until the 2030s. If you are an Oilers fan, this is most certainly a very exciting prospect.
The Edmonton Oilers are fresh off of a season in which they made the Stanley Cup Finals and were a game away from winning it all. Now, they will look to try and repeat last season's playoff success. It won't be easy but they certainly have the pieces to make it happen.
Meanwhile, next Summer, the Oilers will be able to negotiate
Connor McDavid's next deal. If Draisaitl is making $14 million, you can expect McDavid to make close to $15 million.
