Paul Maurice is two wins away from his second straight Stanley Cup, and now he reveals a small thing he does that has immensely helped him over the last two years.
The Florida Panthers finally won their first Stanley Cup in 2024, and not only was it a long, long wait for the organization, but it was a long wait for Paul Maurice too, who coached in over 1,700 games over 26 years before making it finally happen.
When the team did win, Maurice was given the support and the praise of so many fans that he'd built up over the years, and while he may not have won it with their team, it's safe to say that more than just Panthers fans were celebrating the 58-year old.
Now, he's opened up a little on his journey to winning the Stanley Cup, revealing a small, but obvious secret that he has used to give his teams the edge over the years, leading him to finally hoist the Cup in 2024 after chasing it for so long.
ESPN's Greg Wyshynski notes that Maurice stated he looks at previous Stanley Cup winners and watches every single game of theirs to understand how they did it, and while it certainly seems like an obvious tactic, it's likely not one that all coaches and players around the NHL employ.
That may be a tradition he hasn't had to specifically employ this season, as it was his team that won the Stanley Cup a year ago, with the Head Coach already knowing their teams strengths and weaknesses, and now they look to go back-to-back against the same opponent as Maurice looks to cement himself as one of the NHL's modern greats behind the bench.
