This evening, the New York Islanders have ruled out defenseman Alexander Romanov long-term after he suffered an injury on a questionable hit from Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen.
The New York Islanders have started out the season strong finding themselves in a Stanley Cup Playoff spot and one of the better teams in the NHL.
Last night, the Islanders faced one of the biggest tests of the season facing the Dallas Stars.
During the game, Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov went down with an injury after being cross checked into the boards by Mikko Rantanen.
Romanov immediately left the game being ruled out for the rest of the night and now the Islanders have given an update on his injury.
Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov ruled out multiple months after serious injury
This evening, the New York Islanders made a statement confirming that Romanov will be out for the next 5-6 months after having shoulder surgery.
This will effectively end Romanov's season with the Islanders continuing what has been a disappointing tenure in Long Island.
When he was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens, Romanov was originally supposed to be an offensive defenseman and carry one of the top four defensive pairs.
However, to this point Romanov has been an off-puck defenseman with subpar defensive metrics during his entire Islanders tenure and seems to be stuck in that role going forward.
Now, he will head into his 5th season with the Islanders now having a no-trade clause and hopefully looking to unlock a new level of success coming off of this serious injury.
