The 2020 1st overall pick for the New York Rangers, winger Alexis Lafreniere, is not off to a good start of the NHL preseason, and the fans are making sure their voices are heard. Being held scoreless, and contributing only a single assist in three games isn't winning any hearts, and is one of the key factors in the disappointing 1-3 record for the preseason.
Some are even comparing him to Zach Wilson, the back-up, turned starter quarterback for the New York Jets after an Achilles injury on their newly acquired quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, sidelined him for the year.
Lafreniere, turning 22 in less than two weeks, still has a lot to prove. He begins the season on a newly signed two year contract extension, and the pressure will continue to mount on his shoulders if his play doesn't elevate to another level. It is only preseason, but he will need to find a rhythm early in the season, or it'll become hard to justify Lafreniere playing time as the season progresses.
New York Rangers next play the New Jersey Devils, in New Jersey, Wednesday, October 4th.
