The Rangers hired former Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan this off-season, and now he's tasked with bringing excitement back to Madison Square Garden.
This off-season, the Pittsburgh Penguins moved on from long-time Head Coach Mike Sullivan, parting ways with the two-time Stanley Cup winner as they look to move towards the rebuilding phase of their franchise.
He quickly landed on his feet with the New York Rangers, and recently, he named
J.T. Miller as the franchise's newest captain as they look to build towards a Stanley Cup run, the
high expectations that come along with playing in the world's biggest market.
Sullivan tasked with bringing exciting hockey back to New York
Just a few years ago, the Rangers were one of the NHL's most exciting teams, but in 2024/25 that all changed, as the team played boring, uninspiring hockey that had them booed out of Madison Square Garden on several occasions.
Along with bringing back success to the organization, Sullivan needs to bring exciting hockey back to MSG, and he recognized that in his
latest interview, opening up on how special it is to play there.
Madison Square Garden is a special place,» Sullivan said. «No matter what side you play on, whenever you have a chance at playing at Madison Square Garden, it's a unique environment. I think it will be a much friendlier environment when you are on the right side of it I guess and I look forward to that. There's always great energy in the building.
Despite what a daunting task that can be, Sullivan has seen the biggest moments in hockey in recent years, and the organization believe he can accomplish many goals this season, so for Rangers fans, this could be a very exciting campaign.
