Igor Shesterkin's next contract may be worth a lot more than you think

As we have reported in the past, Shesterkin previously turned down an eight-year $88 million with the Rangers. This would have paid him $11 million per year and certainly would have been massive for the goaltending market. However, it would appear as though Shesterkin is looking for about $12 million per year, which is absolutely monumental.

Now, according to a report from RG.org, it is being said that Shesterkin will get any deal he wants. In fact, there are some sources who are now adamant that due to Shesterkin's leverage, he will be seeking upwards of $12.5 million per year. This feels like a lot, but with the salary cap increasing, it could be worthwhile.

With numerous goaltenders starting to get $8.25 million per year, including Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, it is hard to imagine that we are going to see a goalie ever get over $12 million per year. But it just speaks to Shesterkin's skills as a goaltender that something like this could ever be possible.

Only time will tell what the Rangers decide to do, moving forward. If the team were to win a Stanley Cup prior to the renegotiation process, then the team would have no choice but to pay their goalie. Even now, Shesterkin has done enough to prove he is the best in the NHL.
