After a captaincy drought since March 2022, the Philadelphia Flyers finally have a new leader at the helm. The departure of Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers at the '22 NHL Trade Deadline left a void, and the Flyers opted to navigate without a captain for a while.
But tonight, the franchise made it official: forward Sean Couturier is stepping up as the Flyers' new captain, marking the 20th in team history. Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton will join him as assistant captains.
"Sean Couturier is the perfect choice to lead the Philadelphia Flyers," remarked Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere. "Drafted here and committed to this city, Sean has truly become a cornerstone player. His journey from a reliable forward to one of the league's top two-way centers and a playoff standout exemplifies true leadership.
