Analyst Urges Penguins to Explore Sidney Crosby Trade for $84 Million Goalie, and Former Top-3 Pick
Carey Price's contract could be moved in the near future, and one analyst has urged Pittsburgh to take advantage and trade Sidney Crosby to Montreal.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been in plenty of headlines this summer, and surprisingly, despite signing a new deal in 2024, much of that speculation revolves around captain Sidney Crosby.
Despite all of the speculation,
Elliotte Friedman recently revealed Crosby's fate ahead of the 2025/26 season, noting that unless something drastic and shocking happens, he'll be with the team heading into the new campaign.
One player that may be moved however is Carey Price, who is retired from the NHL, but with his
$10 million contract available for less than $1 million of official salary for the new season, it's been seen as an ideal pickup for teams looking to get to the salary cap floor.
Analyst proposes shocking trade involving Sidney Crosby and Carey Price
Unsurprisingly, it was only a matter of time until someone linked the Penguins to this deal, and with Crosby/Montreal constantly in rumours, it's now happened, with analyst Denis Pettigrew offering this hypothetical deal.
Penguins receive: Carey Price's contract,
Kirby Dach and 2026 second and fourth round picks.
Canadiens receive: Sidney Crosby.
Given that Pettigrew is affiliated with the Canadiens, it's no shock that the deal weighs heavily in their favour, as they give up very little of note beyond Kirby Dach, who has failed to live up to expectations thus far to land the best captain in the entire NHL.
Ultimately, it's a deal that the Penguins ultimately wouldn't make, as they would likely want more in return for Crosby, but with the captain stating that he wants to remain in Pittsburgh, there are a few reasons why this wouldn't happen.
