Beloved Penguins insider Matt Vensel has decided to leave his current role of writing about Pittsburgh and has taken up a new opportunity moving forward.

NHL insider Matt Vensel announced he is moving into an editing role at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, something he called an exciting opportunity to work more directly with the talented team in place.

Matt Vensel will still release the occasional story from time to time

Vensel said a few more Penguins stories will be coming in the near future, but otherwise, he is shifting behind the scenes.
"I am shifting over to an editing role at the PittsburghPG. It is an opportunity I am very excited about and I look forward to working more closely with the talented team the PG.

BTW, I will publish a couple more Penguins stories in the near future.

- Matt Vensel
The change represents a bittersweet moment in his career. For Vensel, covering Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins has represented a highlight of his career to date, with memories both on and off the ice.
From some of the more unique assignments, including joining Kris Letang for a summer workout, to the mundane interactions around the rink, his time on the beat has been one filled with meaningful connections.

Why Matt Vensel is so thankful for his previous line of work

He was thankful for the players, coaches, support staff, and the Penguins' communications team, many of whom were kind and welcoming throughout his more than seven years covering the team.
The transition comes with a tinge of sadness, Vensel said, but it is not a complete goodbye. He will stay on to write pieces for the publication while, through his new role, helping maintain the high editorial standards at the Post-Gazette.
Vensel thanked readers who have followed him through the years and expressed excitement for the next chapter; he added that his connection to both the paper and the Penguins community will continue, just in a different capacity.
