That doesn't mean that there aren't teams interested however, and if Kyle Dubas and the Penguins retain salary on the veteran defenseman, a trade becomes all the more feasible this off-season.
In the deal, the Penguins would have to retain money, with the highlight of the return being 23-year old centre Mavrik Bourque, who scored 25 points in his first full NHL season in 2024/25 after putting up 77 points in 71 games the year before in the American Hockey League with the Texas Stars.
On top of that, they would get a piece in Ilya Lyubushkin that they could likely flip at the trade deadline along with another second-round pick to add to the Penguins current haul of draft picks, and while it may be a little overpay for Dallas, they're a team that need talent on their blue line, so if this deal came to fruition, it would be good for both teams, but a big win for Pittsburgh.
