Sergei Murashov has shown potential early in his NHL career, and now Bryan Rust has showered him with praise despite a recent defeat.
The Pittsburgh Penguins organization have incredibly high hopes for former fourth-round pick Sergei Murashov, with some even predicting the 21-year old goaltender could force his way into the team this season.
That was even with the duo of
Arturs Silovs and
Joel Blomqvist ahead of him, and with the injury to
Tristan Jarry, he's already been given a significant shot early in the 2025/26 season, making his debut on Sunday.
Bryan Rust Full Of Praise For Murashov After His NHL Debut
On Sunday, he appeared in his first NHL game against the Los Angeles Kings, and while the team came up short, Murashov performed well, stopping 24 of the 27 shots he saw as the team fell 3-2 in a tough matchup that saw him make plenty of impressive saves throughout.
Despite the team losing and Murashov letting in three goals, the team in front of him were
clearly impressed, with veteran forward Bryan Rust full of compliments for the 21-year old after the game.
He's obviously an unbelievable goalie. You saw it tonight. He made some big saves for us. I think we would have liked to be a little bit better in front of him and not give them some of those Grade-As that we did.
Unsurprisingly, Rust took the responsibility on himself and the team ahead of him, but even with the team's overall struggles in that game, Murashov showed he has immense talent, and now, he could be set to establish himself as a full-time NHLer moving forward.
