Tristan Jarry struggled mightily a year ago, and now, Frank Seravalli has revealed the only reason why the Penguins didn't buy out the veteran goaltender.
Last season was a rough one for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as the team missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a third straight season, resulting in the team moving on from long-time Head Coach Mike Sullivan in a surprise move this off-season.
It wasn't all his fault however, as plenty of players struggled on the ice, but none more so than goaltender Tristan Jarry, who was placed on waivers after posting a 3.09 GAA and an .893 save percentage on the year.
Those numbers look much better than Jarry played after bouncing back late in the year, with many expecting the team to try and find ways to move on from him after his poor start.
Frank Seravalli Reveals Why Jarry Wasn't Bought Out
Now, Frank Seravalli has addressed that exact topic, revealing that if Jarry's contract wasn't buy-out proof, Kyle Dubas and the front office would have made that move rather quickly.
The Penguins would have bought Tristan Jarry out if his contract wasn't buyout proof.
This season, the 30-year old is having a bounce back campaign, posting a 2.60 GAA and a .911 save percentage in seven appearances to start the year before suffering an
untimely injury.
At this point in time, it's likely that Jarry will see out his current contract with the team, but if
Sergei Murashov and
Joel Blomqvist continue emerging as the future, there's a great chance the front office will continue to try and find ways to move his bloated contract.
