Dan Muse announces Penguins' starting goalie, gives update on Rutger McGroarty
Penguins coach Dan Muse revealed that Stuart Skinner will get the start in goal tonight vs. the Flyers, and also provided an update on Rutger McGroarty's condition.
This is Penguins-Flyers Round 3 of the rivalry for the season. Pittsburgh is 1-0-1 so far, after losing a shootout to Philadelphia on October 27 and winning the rematch 5-1 on December 1. The Flyers will return to Pittsburgh on March 7 for one final meeting.
The Flyers come in after a 5-2 loss in Buffalo last night and are on a four-game losing streak (0-3-1). Since Christmas, Philadelphia has cooled off, posting a 3-5-1 record.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, continues to benefit from facing teams in the second half of back-to-backs in recent weeks.
What awaits the Penguins after tonight's game vs. the Flyers
The Penguins have one more home game after tonight, hosting Columbus at PPG Paints on Saturday, before heading out on a long West Coast trip.
They'll face Seattle on Monday at 5 p.m. Eastern, then Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, before returning home after knocking out the Pacific Northwest portion of their schedule.
Penguins coach Dan Muse confirmed that Stuart Skinner will get the start in goal against the Flyers tonight. Muse also provided an update on Rutger McGroarty, saying his recovery from a concussion remains status quo.
Why the Penguins have enjoyed playing the Flyers lately
Pittsburgh has had strong success against Philadelphia at home, earning points in 10 straight games (8-0-2) dating back to March 6, 2021.
With the Flyers struggling and the Pens on a favorable schedule, Pittsburgh looks to extend that streak and build momentum before their road trip out west.
