The Penguins Stanley Cup hopes may be over, but they still had plenty to play for, and now Mike Sullivan has announced some devastating news as no less than five players have now officially been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 2024/25 season has been a rollercoaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and while they've officially been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, there was plenty to play for down the stretch as they were looking to get some new faces in the lineup.
Unfortunately, the injury bug has struck late in the season, and now, Mike Sullivan has revealed that the following five players are done for the remainder of the regular season:
All of these are brutal losses for the Penguins, with perhaps the standout name being Tommy Novak, who came to the team from the Nashville Predators at the deadline before playing just 2 games, and since that point he's remained sidelined.
The other biggest name is Rutger McGroarty, who has flashed immense potential alongside Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust on the team's top line, but now, he'll take no further part in the Penguins season.
That's the Pittsburgh Penguins though, as insider Josh Yohe has revealed that at some point in the coming weeks, McGroarty could be available for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in their chase for the Calder Cup.
Regardless, these five names are big losses for a Penguins team that was trying to figure out what their lineup could look like next season with some games down the stretch, so now we will wait and see who comes into the lineup, with the team potentially looking to give chances to other young names late in the year.
