Avery Hayes potentially has a bright future in Pittsburgh, and now he's commented on playing with and learning from an icon like Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
Avery Hayes has been a name that many have called out as
a future piece for the Pittsburgh Penguins, with the formerly un-drafted winger starring for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL a season ago.
In 60 games played with WBS, Hayes tallied 23 goals and 42 points, making himself known as a future NHLer, and at 22-years of age, he's been making waves in Penguins camp this off-season.
Hayes comments on the chance to play alongside Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh
After playing with Sidney Crosby for the first time, the rookie hopeful was in awe of the Penguins captain, and when he was asked about it, it wasn't surprising to hear him gushing over how special the chance was to be on the ice alongside No. 87.
It was amazing, I mean I got to learn so much from just one game and the couple practices before. I was super proud of myself and yeah it was just an amazing feeling.
Despite getting up there in age, Crosby is still one of the most effective players in the NHL, and for young players that grew up watching him, there's simply no one better to learn from in the entire league.
Ultimately, it's unclear whether or not Hayes will make his way onto the NHL roster this season, but after a fantastic AHL season a year ago and a very impressive summer, if he can get on Crosby's good side and play a role alongside him, there could be a spot on the top roster for him.
