Erik Karlsson discusses returning home to Sweden as part of the NHL's global series
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson is excited to return to his native Sweden as part of the NHL's Global Series that they'll play against the Nashville Predators.
The NHL Global Series Sweden presented by Fastenal is once again returning to Sweden, and Swedish native
Erik Karlsson is looking forward to it naturally.
Karlsson, who was not traded despite being involved in multiple rumours over the summer and recently played in his 1,00th career game, can't wait to play an NHL game in his homeland.
It's going to be great, obviously. It's a fun experience and opportunity to play in front of the Swedish people. Lucky to be on one of the teams that gets a chance to do it.
It's the second time Karlsson will play an NHL game in Sweden, as he previously did so while a member of the Ottawa Senators.
That was a great time. This time around, I'll probably have a little bit of a better idea of how to utilize my time to the best of ability and get the most out of it. So, it's going to be nice just to go back there. It's not many opportunities you get to spend November in Sweden.
So far this year, Karlsson 12 points (1G, 11A) in 17 games for the Penguins, who have surprised many fans and analysts alike with their strong start.
Unfortunately, fellow Swedish player Rickard Rakell won't be able to play as he's still recovering from surgery after blocking a shot with his hand, but he still plans to accompany them on the trip, which Karlsson is glad about.
It's very unfortunate, obviously, for them. Like I said, it's very rare that you get this opportunity over the course of your career, no matter how long you play. So, very sad for them, but at least [Rakell] gets to go.
So far this year, Rakell has eight points (3G, 5A).
