Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson reveals the teammate that he's gotten closest to during his time with the team despite the multiple trade rumours.
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson may have been involved in plenty of trade rumours, but that hasn't stopped him from getting close with his current teammates.
He's especially gotten close with fellow right-handed defenseman Kris Letang, who is one of the longest tenured members of the team with
Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin.
Tanger's a great guy. He's done most of the things that anyone could wish for in a career. He's still going strong. I think that we respect each other equally and we're good friends off the ice. I think our relationship has been great from Day 1.
We want to do what's best for the other. We're happy for each other. We're trying to find a way where we're both equally happy and I think we've done a good job with that. - Erik Karlsson
Karlsson still has 2 years left on his contract with a considerable AAV (average annual value) of $11.5 million, which may have scared off potential teams that were interested in acquiring him.
The Pittsburgh Penguins tried to trade several players during the summer
Penguins GM Kyle Dubas tried not only to trade Karlsson over the summer, but forwards
Rickard Rakell and
Bryan Rust as well.
He proved unsuccessful in finding a trade partner for any of those players, and all of them still are with the team to begin the new season.
The Penguins managed to beat former head coach Mike Sullivan and the New York Rangers 3-0 in their 1st game of the season, only to have him
to get revenge on them with a 6-1 win in Pittsburgh over the weekend.
