Erik Karlsson Sets a New Record Amongst Active Defensemen Against the New Jersey Devils
This afternoon, Erik Karlsson has surpassed an impressive threshold separating himself as the best active defenseman in the NHL.
During his time in Pittsburgh, Erik Karlsson has had an up and down experience with last season being very underwhelming but now has gotten off to a strong start this year.
After only amassing 53 points last season, Karlsson is already up to 12 this season and on pace for 65 points and significantly better defensive metrics as well.
Just a few nights ago, Karlsson crossed a great milestone scoring his 200th goal of his NHL career.
Now in his 17th season Karlsson has suited up in his 1100th game in the NHL against the New Jersey Devils placing him in elite company across the league.

With this game, Karlsson now becomes the 6th active defenseman to play in 1100 games.
Among those 6 active players Karlsson has by far the most points followed by
Victor Hedman, Kris Letang,
John Carlson, and others.
If Karlsson can continue to lead the Penguins to unexpected heights this season he will further cement his legacy as a Hall of Fame defenseman.
