Evgeni Malkin Handed Punishment For Vicious Slash on Jets Defenseman Logan Stanley

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been rolling early in the 2025/26 season, and with an 8-3-2 record through their first 13 games, they've been the talk of the town in the National Hockey League.

Their most impressive player to this point has been veteran Evgeni Malkin, who has put up an incredible 18 points in 13 games despite being 39-years of age as the team once again look like a genuine threat in the Eastern Conference.

During their defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday evening, Malkin took a major slash to the hands of defenseman Logan Stanley, something that fans and the players took note of immediately.

Now, a day later, the NHL's Department of Player Safety clearly took notice too, as they have fined Malkin the maximum allowable under the current CBA, handing down a $5,000 fine for the Penguins superstar.

On paper, this is the right call from the DoPS, as this is the type of act that they've tried to get out of the game in recent years, but with players battling and experiencing frustration, this is likely always going to continue.

Given all the money he's earned over his career, this likely won't bother Malkin too much, as he's clearly focused on having an incredible season with the Penguins, and with the team back at it on Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, he won't be holding back as he looks to help lead this team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
