Embarrassing Blunder By Arturs Silovs Leads to Penalty Shot Goal From Jets Star Kyle Connor
Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Arturs Silovs is going to want this play back, as his embarrassing blunder led directly to a penalty shot goal against by Jets star forward Kyle Connor.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were beaten 5-2 by the Winnipeg Jets this afternoon, but there was one play that stood out, which goaltender Arturs Silovs is going to want back.
He misplayed the puck in the corner and had it stolen by Jets forward Kyle Connor. Silovs desperately tried to stop him from scoring into the open net by diving and throwing his stick at the puck, which automatically resulted in a penalty shot being awarded to Connor.
Connor then scored on his penalty shot attempt to make the score 4-0 for the Jets.
It was Silovs's only 2nd regulation loss with the Penguins since coming over in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks.
Arturs Silovs Is In His First Year With The Penguins
Silovs was taken by the Vancouver Canucks with the 156th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and he would play the 1st several years of his professional career with the organization.
He was also sent into playoff action with the Canucks in 2024 because of the injury to starter Thatcher Demko and the struggle of backup Casey DeSmith; Silovs and the Canucks made it to Game 7 of the WCSF against the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers.
Silovs mostly played in the AHL last year, and would help lead the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks to the Calder Cup championship.
He was then traded to the Penguins for Chase Stillman and a 4th round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
