Exact Price Tag for Kyle Dubas and the Penguins to Sign Mitch Marner in Free Agency Revealed

2025 NHL Free Agency is almost upon us, and while there's not many stars available, the biggest one is Mitch Marner, who appears set to depart the Toronto Maple Leafs after nine years with his home town organization.

Given the ties to Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas and the need for a star winger alongside Sidney Crosby, he's been often linked to the Penguins, who have struggled to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs in three straight seasons.

Now however, top NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has revealed the price needed to land No. 16 in the summer, and it's safe to say that it's going to be a major investment for whichever team wants to sign the biggest name available in free agency.

According to Seravalli, the likely deal for Marner will be seven-years, $13 million AAV, which would make him among the 10 highest paid players in the NHL, as he will command more than $4 million more than Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Given his production however, it's fair that he will demand that, with no other player on the free agency market this off-season likely to get more than $9 million, and with his first 100 point season in the books in 2024/25, the Penguins would be wise to go after the former Kyle Dubas draft pick.

Ultimately, fans in Pittsburgh appear split on targeting Marner in free agency, but with the Penguins needing elite level talent to usher in a new generation once Sidney Crosby moves on and for his final few years, Marner could ultimately be the catalyst for some major success late in 87's career.
