The Pittsburgh Penguins blew a 2-0 lead to the Islanders on Tuesday night, and now some fans have called for the team to move on from Head Coach Mike Sullivan.
However, some fans would like to see that decision taken out of his hands, as there was plenty of outrage on social media after the team blew a 2-0 lead against the New York Islanders, another blow to their fledgling Stanley Cup hopes in 2024/25.
This fan pointed out the unnecessary lineup changes and the decision to stick with a struggling veteran as the reason why Pittsburgh need to take a look at their coaches future, with other suggestions that he's lost the room beyond their veteran core.
Unfortunately, this performance was reminiscent of the early season where the team weren't being aggressive on the powerplay and passing too much, and that's seemingly another mark against Sullivan according to others.
This was the teams first loss in five games after they built up an impressive five-game win streak, and while the Stanley Cup Playoffs were always a long shot, for a team to come out in the third period and play like that against a team only just ahead of them in the standings, it's easy to see where the frustration comes from.
Ultimately, for those fans that want to see Sullivan moved on, it's very unlikely to happen given his relationship with
Sidney Crosby,
Evgeni Malkin and the core of this Penguins team, and as long as those players are leading the way, it would be a shock to see Sullivan moved on as Head Coach.
