Drake Caggilua had a solid NHL career over the past nine years, but now, the 30-year old is bound for Switzerland after signing a new deal that will see him depart the NHL after nine seasons at the top level.
In 2022/23, the Pittsburgh Penguins saw veteran forward
Drake Caggiula play four games with the team, as he spent much of the year in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, notching 22 goals and 53 points in 65 games played in the American Hockey League.
Since that point, he's gone on to play with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL and seven games with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL, but now, the 30-year old's professional career has taken a major shift.
According to reports, the formerly un-drafted college free agent is now headed overseas, with the announcement that he has signed with Lausanne HC in the National League in Switzerland.
The 30-year old has been in the NHL since 2016/17, playing in 289 games with Edmonton, Arizona, Chicago, Pittburgh and Edmonton again and most recently, but his lack of playing time has seemingly informed him that his career could be better served overseas.
In the past few years, we've seen several veterans sign overseas to prolong their professional careers, and now Caggiula has joined them, but with time left in his career, the Ontario native could be looking to make it back to North America and the NHL at some point.
For now however, the former Penguins forward is going to get a shot to prove himself in the National League, one of the top hockey leagues in the entire world, and if he performs well, who knows what the future will hold for him.
