Pittsburgh Penguins Sign New Coach in the Organization, Per Taylor Haase
The Pittsburgh Penguins are seeking a new Head Coach, but according to a top Penguins reporter, they've landed a WBS Penguins coach first in the form of former NHLer Brad Malone, just one year after retirement from playing professional hockey.
The Pittsburgh Penguins off-season thus far has been defined by their search for a new Head Coach, and as of Monday, it appears they're narrowing things down to two candidates.
However, that hasn't stopped them from adding a new coach to the organization, as reporter Taylor Haase has announced on Monday that they've officially made a new hire.
In 2024/25, Malone was a development coach for the OHL's Oshawa Generals before quickly being promoted to Interim Head Coach, and now his rise continues as the 36-year old joins the AHL's WBS Penguins in an assistant capacity.
Not long later, the organization made the announcement on social media, with many seeing this as a good hire as Malone will bring a new perspective to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as someone that retired from the NHL just two years ago after the 2022/23 season, playing in the AHL for Bakersfield as late as 2024.
Only time will tell if this ends up being a good hire for the Penguins, but given that Malone has great experience in the NHL and already rose through the ranks in the OHL, it's safe to say that the Penguins betting on experience and potential could pay off for them in a very big way.
