Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman David Warsofsky has landed a new head coaching position with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.

A former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman is getting his chance as a head coach.
David Warsofsky, who played 19 games overall for the Penguins from 2015-16 through 2016-17, has been named the head coach of the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays.
Stingrays President Rob Concannon announced the new hire in a prepared statement:
After a lengthy and thorough process, the Stingrays are excited to name David Warsofsky as the next Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.
Additionally, Warsofsky released the following statement of thanks:
I would like to thank Rob Concannon and Todd Halloran for this opportunity. My family and I are excited to be a part of the Stingrays organization. Having the opportunity to spend time with the team last season and being at the games gave me an up close perspective of the players, ECHL, and what it takes to be competitive every night.

He was originally taken by the St. Louis Blues with the 95th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, but first played several years for Boston University. He'd be traded to the Boston Bruins, but played almost exclusively for their AHL affiliate Providence Bruins.
Warsofsky signed a 1-year contract with the Penguins in both the summer of 2015 and 2016, but didn't play in enough regular season games to get his name on the Stanley Cup in those years.
After stints in the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes organizations, he later spent his final professional years playing overseas in Germany with ERC Ingolstadt and Augsburger Panther.
