Robby Fabbri signed a PTO with the Pittsburgh Penguins this off-season, but now, the former Stanley Cup winner has signed an AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers.
After a solid start to his career in the National Hockey League, Robby Fabbri struggled to find a full-time role in the league this past off-season, beginning the 2025/26 campaign as a free agent.
After appearing in 44 games for the Anaheim Ducks a season ago, tallying 8 goals and 16 points in that time, the 29-year old veteran signed a professional tryout with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Given the spots that the Penguins had up for grabs, it was a solid move for the team, but unfortunately, Fabbri simply couldn't find his way to a full-time deal despite impressing some in the organization, with an injury playing a role in that situation.
Fabbri signs with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL
Now, he has
found his next role in professional hockey, as Fabbri officially signed a PTO with the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers on Monday.
That leaves him a long way from a return to the NHL, but with 442 games and 106 goals in the league under his belt, he should be optimistic about earning a full-time contract with the Checkers.
Now, fans will wait and see whether the former Stanley Cup winner with the St. Louis Blues can earn his way back to the NHL, and while he may never develop into a star at the NHL level, given his solid production throughout his career, Fabbri could find his way back into the league at some point this season.
