If you're a Penguins fan, the following news is going to be music to your ears, as future projected #1 overall pick Gavin McKenna is signing with Penn State.

Now that the NHL Draft has come and gone and free agency has started to sort itself out, hockey finds itself in its annual dog days, but there's one massive storyline in the waiting, and it's the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes.
McKenna will be the expected number-one pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and has gone on to be described as the most electrifying potential player since Connor McDavid.
With the agreement between the NCAA and CHL now in place, McKenna will get to play in his college draft year in U.S. colleges, which was never afforded to previous players.
Until very recently, Penn State and Michigan State were neck and neck in his commitment battle. Each had some very good points, ranging from elite facilities all the way through to elite coaching and exposure.

It appears that McKenna will choose Penn State over Michigan State

Now, though, there will allegedly be a decision, and it will be favorable news for Pittsburgh Penguins and Penn State enthusiasts. It was reported that McKenna had been included in Penn State's team recently, late into last night, and will therefore potentially commit as early as today officially.
"Sounds like Gavin McKenna will be signing with Penn State sometime this week. Maybe even as early as today."

If it were true, this would be huge for the Penguins and the Nittany Lions, as one of the most impactful generational players of the future would be playing merely two hours away from Sidney Crosby.
McKenna's arrival would bring Penn State its first real NHL-quality cornerstone. Penn State has never had any NHLers worth mentioning, as Brett Murray's 26-game NHL career accounts for the most. McKenna at Penn State will be the greatest thing that ever will occur at that university, and sooner or later, it will become official.
