Insider Links Maple Leafs Superstar as Ideal Offseason Target for Dubas and the Penguins

Mitch Marner will be the biggest free agent in the summer of 2025, and now an insider has revealed he should be a top target for Kyle Dubas.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have a clear plan under Kyle Dubas, and with the most draft picks in the NHL over the next three years, they are stocked full of assets to go in any direction they want moving forward.
However, that doesn't mean the team won't be aggressive in trying to load up for the near future, with the Athletic now giving several reasons as to why the team would make sense as a landing destination for superstar forward Mitch Marner.
The Penguins are going to have a ton of salary cap room this summer, upwards of $25 million, and some trades could make that number even higher.
Marner and Kyle Dubas, by many accounts, have a great relationship.
Marner and Sidney Crosby are pals, from hanging out at the NHL All-Star Game last season to teaming up to beat Sweden in overtime at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
The Penguins want to find young players, and Marner is still only 27, making him fairly young.
The 2025-26 season will likely be Evgeni Malkin's last, and the Penguins could use some star power.

With almost $25 million in salary cap space to work with, the Penguins could pay Marner more than almost any other team in the NHL, but the biggest factor of all is the relationship with Sidney Crosby, as the two were teammates at the Four Nations and could pair up to save this Penguins team very quickly.
There's been plenty of speculation around Marner and Pittsburgh all season long, and if the Maple Leafs can't get him back at whatever his asking price will be, it seems as though Pittsburgh may be a top landing spot.
Ultimately, this is a team that could go in any direction moving forward, but if Marner is available and interested in being a Penguin, that's a situation that GM Kyle Dubas and the front office seriously need to explore.
