Kyle Dubas Weighing Trade Options for Newly Acquired Defenseman
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas is reportedly weighing his trade options with a newly acquired defenseman.
Kyle Dubas might be one of the busiest people in the NHL over the next couple of days as he looks to retool his Penguins on the fly.
He has already been very active on the trade market, as we saw last night when he made two deals.
But there is a very good chance Dubas will still have more moves to make before Friday's deadline.
In fact, NHL insider Darren Dreger is reporting that Dubas may very well flip Schenn before he ever even plays a game with the Penguins.
Schenn is a grizzled NHL veteran. He's appeared in 1057 career regular-season games putting up 44 goals and 203 points in the process.
He's also appeared in 47 career playoff games scoring 3 goals and 7 points. He won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021 with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The 35-year-old has another year left on his contract after this one, and it comes with a 2.75 million dollar cap hit.
As such, Dubas will not need to feel pressured into making a decision with him right away.
If he feels like he doesn't get the offers he is looking for over the next two days, he could very well hold onto him, potentially dealing him over the summer, at the draft, or even at next year's trade deadline.
So be sure to keep an eye on Pittsburgh as the trade deadline approaches.
