Nick Robertson recently signed a new deal with the Maple Leafs, but given his connections to Kyle Dubas, he's been linked to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After over a year of trade speculation, Nick Robertson recently inked a new deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, avoiding arbitration as they agreed to a deal worth $1.825 million per season.
Despite the new deal, the trade speculation hasn't subsided, with Nick Barden of The Hockey News reporting that the Penguins are always considered a landing spot due to his connections to Kyle Dubas.
"I had a couple of people ask me about the possibility of Nick Robertson in Pittsburgh, just because obviously Kyle Dubas knows him."

Could the Penguins Target Nick Robertson Despite His New Deal With the Leafs?

While many believe that the Penguins are sellers moving forward, adding young names to their roster is never a bad move, and at 23-years of age, Robertson fits the billing for what this team would potentially want in a return for one of their key veterans.
On top of that, Robertson isn't set for a signifcant role in Toronto, and after tallying 29 goals and 49 over the past two seasons in a limited role, mostly in the bottom-six, he could be a genuine buy-low option for Pittsburgh as they look to continue building for the future.
Ultimately, it makes sense for the Maple Leafs to move out some forwards to clear the logjam they've built up front, and given that the Penguins have veterans that could find a role in Toronto, there could certainly be a potential deal to be had here involving Robertson.
