Maple Leafs Organization Sign Former Penguins Forward

At 29-years of age, Marc Johnstone has been with the Penguins organization for the past two seasons, getting to make his NHL debut with the organization during the 2023/24 season.

Unfortunately for the talented forward, he was unable to catch on at the top level, as that remains the only game he's played in the National Hockey League, spending all of last season in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Now, he's headed north of the border, as it has been revealed that he ha signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, re joining the organization that he spent two seasons with early in his professional career.

In Toronto, he may get the opportunity to make an NHL push in the pre-season, but with the New Jersey native playing in the AHL for the past four seasons, it's highly likely that's where he will remain, playing for the Toronto Marlies for the first time since the 2022/23 season.

Johnstone no doubt has the talent to be a solid contributor in the AHL, posting a career high of 22 points during that 22/23 season with the Marlies, but since then, he's been unable to take a massive leap forward.

Still, the Penguins will miss having him as a solid contributor in their bottom-six, but with so much young talent set to make their way to the AHL soon, it simply didn't make sense for them to keep him, so now he'll look for a bigger role with the Marlies and the Maple Leafs organization.
