Matt Dumba learns his fate after being placed on waivers by the Penguins
This afternoon Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Matt Dumba has officially learned his fate and found a new home after being placed on waivers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins pulled off a blockbuster trade yesterday landing goaltender Tristan Jarry from the Edmonton Oilers.
The trade by the Penguins also brought in defenseman Brett Kulak meaning that Pittsburgh had an extra defenseman and would need to send someone down.
That player ended up being Matt Dumba who was placed on waivers and could be claimed by any team in the NHL today until 2 pm.
After being placed on waivers, speculation began to build regarding whether or not any other team would claim Dumba or if he would slip through to the AHL.
Now, according to an announcement from the team Dumba went unclaimed and will remain with the Penguins being assigned to the AHL.

According to the announcement from the Penguins Dumba will now be assigned to the AHL and report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Dumba, 31, played in 11 games for the Penguins and had 3 points before being placed on waivers now the former first-round pick will head to the AHL while he looks to get his career back on track.
Now that Dumba has cleared waivers all eyes will be on him to see if he reports to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton or if he refuses to play in the AHL after such a long and impressive tenure in the NHL to this point.
