The NHL has a big presence on social media, but according to a report from PuckEmpire, the Penguins have lost over 11,000 followers this past season.
Over the past few years, the business of the NHL has been booming, and with the potential for expansion in the coming years, it's safe to say that business will only continue to grow up for North America's smallest of the Big 4 leagues.
Unfortunately for the Pittsburgh Penguins, things haven't been going fantastic in recent years, as they've missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three straight seasons, and with a rebuild on the way, things could be getting worse.
Now, a recent report has shown the extent of how bad things have gotten, with the revelation that of all 32 teams in the league, the Penguins were the only ones to lose followers on social media this past season.
According to PuckEmpire, the team with the lowest amount of followers gained was the Golden Knights with 3,100, but for the Penguins, there was a loss of over 11,000 followers, signalling that some fans of the team may not be as onboard for the rebuild as others.
It's unclear whether it was pure frustration from those fans regarding the rebuild or something else, but given that the team are just a few years away from losing Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, this could get worse in the coming seasons before it gets better for Pittsburgh.
