Justin Brazeau was signed by Kyle Dubas and the Penguins this off-season, and now he's made his intent clear ahead of a crucial 2025/26 season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't made a splash thus far in the off-season, but they have added some very intriguing pieces, with the most intriguing of all being former Kyle Dubas signee Justin Brazeau.
Dubas first signed him with the Maple Leafs back in 2019, and after becoming an NHL regular in recent years, the Penguins GM inked him to a deal this off-season, signing the 27-year old Ontario native to a two-year, one-way deal worth $1.5 million per season.
Brazeau makes his intentions ahead of 2025/26 in Pittsburgh clear
In a
recent interview with NHL.com, Brazeau talked about his opportunities coming up in 2025/26, stating that with the confidence he's gained in the past few years, he believes he can be a really good player in the NHL.
"With every game, every day in the NHL, I think my confidence has kind of started to build and grow, getting adjusted to the speed of the game and the timings and stuff like that. So, I don't think it's any one thing in particular. I think it's just kind of that confidence and knowing that you belong in this league and you can be a good player."
After battling hard to get to the NHL, Brazeau knows what type of player he is, and after revealing his gameplan in the interview, he's made it clear that he's coming for a regular roster spot.
"I'm a really good player at establishing that net-front. I'm not going to be flying through the neutral zone, making a ton of plays off the rush and stuff like that. I think I'm more of a simple player in that sense.
But once we get in that zone, (it's about) extending possessions off rebounds or winning battles off that initial forecheck and stuff. So, I think that's something in my game that I do really well."
In 95 NHL games over the past three years, Brazeau has tallied 16 goals and 29 points, and while he's never going to be a star, as a physical threat up front, he's perfect for this Penguins team, and with his latest comments, it looks like he's ready to make a big time impact.
