NHL insider Josh Yohe revealed that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas would absolutely trade the team's key veterans, not Sidney Crosby, if the right return presented itself.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have some major decisions to make this season, and all indications are that Kyle Dubas has total control of the situation.
As president of hockey operations and general manager, Dubas has total support from Fenway Sports Group ownership, his go-to coach in Dan Muse, and minimal input from ownership as FSG weighs selling the team.
With all that said, rumors have circulated regarding the futures of Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Erik Karlsson.

Sidney Crosby Would Rather Kyle Dubas Not Trade Away the Team's Veterans

Although Sidney Crosby would not be happy to lose his dynamic top wingers, Dubas has not had any qualms about trading core pieces in the event that the right return is presented.
Trade talks calmed over the summer, but that wasn't for Dubas being shy. There were attempts at trading for Rakell at the end of last year, and there were a number of teams asking about Rust during the offseason.
Rust, especially, is still a quality asset in the league, but Dubas still hasn't had an offer good enough to let him go.
Rakell and Karlsson are the likeliest two to trade in the coming months. Dubas isn't aggressively shopping them but will deal if a quality offer is made, per NHL insider Josh Yohe.
"I don't think Dubas will hesitate to trade any of the above-mentioned players if he gets the right return."

Trade rumors have subsided momentarily, but the Penguins are a group to watch as Dubas considers all alternatives.
Ultimately, it's the Dubas show. With the bench, roster, and direction of the organization in his hands, all decision-making, or not deciding at all, will be framed through his idea of the future of the Penguins.
