Even with trade rumors swirling, notably mentioned by Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking at a future together.

Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff reports that discussions about a contract extension for the Penguins' captain are not only underway but could be finalized as early as July 1st, the first day Crosby is eligible for such a deal.

"The #Penguins have already discussed a contract extension with franchise cornerstone and top-10 player in league history, Sidney Crosby.

Seravalli believes that he could sign the dotted line within minutes of July 1st, when he becomes eligible to do so." PuckEmpire said on Instagram.

Crosby, who has been with the Penguins since being drafted first overall in 2005, is approaching the final year of his 12-year contract signed in 2012, which has an annual average value (AAV) of $8.7 million.

As the summer of 2025 approaches, when Crosby will turn 38, speculation about the terms of his extension is rampant. It's thought the deal might span two or three years, potentially pushing his AAV past the $10 million mark, especially with the salary cap expected to rise.

Hailing from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Crosby has remained a powerhouse on the ice. This season, he's keeping up an impressive pace with 63 points, including 32 goals and 31 assists, over 60 games, highlighting that age hasn't slowed him down one bit.
