This evening, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has issued a ruling on Evgeni Malkin's slash on Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.

Last night, Evgeni Malkin was ejected from the Penguins' game against the Buffalo Sabres due to a slash on Rasmus Dahlin.
On the play, Malkin was given a 5-minute major and ejected leaving him open to being suspended by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Now, after having a virtual meeting with the NHL's Department of Player Safety a ruling on Malkin handing down a punishment on him.

NHL Department of Player Safety Issue a Punishment to Evgeni Malkin

After meeting with the Department of Player Safety, George Parros and the NHL have determined that Malkin will be suspended for 5 games for his slash on Dahlin.
With Malkin out, the Penguins will have to adapt and it will be crucial for other veteran players to step up.
Especially with Sidney Crosby already out due to injury the Penguins are going to be in dire need of others to step up and contribute.
In particular, this could be a great time to see what some of the young players like Ben Kindel or Ville Koivunen can do in bigger roles as the Penguins prepare for a potential future without Malkin who is on an expiring contract.
If the Penguins can stay in the race with Malkin out, then they will set themselves up great to be a contender heading down the stretch.
If they struggle, Kyle Dubas could regret not being a seller at the deadline and building for the future.
The Penguins will next take the ice against their rival the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow night.
