The offseason signing of Justin Brazeau by Kyle Dubas didn't look like much at first, but it might have quietly been one of the best moves he's ever made.
The 27-year-old inked a two-year, $3 million deal during the summer free agency period, which, at the time, didn't generate much buzz among fans and analysts.
However, just a few weeks into the new campaign, it's already shaping up to be one of GM Kyle Dubas' smartest offseason decisions he's possibly ever made.
Justin Brazeau is averaging over a point-per-game in a Pittsburgh Penguins uniform
Through his first seven games, he's scored five goals, added three assists, has eight points, while also registering 12 hits, and a plus-3 rating.
His performance includes a standout three-point night, with one goal and two assists, in Pittsburgh's recent 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on October 21st.
Over his last four games, Brazeau has a total of five points and continues to build chemistry with his linemates, something that must be very pleasing for head coach Dan Muse. Brazeau's early success is a promising sign for both him and the organization.
If he maintains this level of play, he could prove to be one of the most valuable free agency signings of the offseason and a crucial depth piece in Pittsburgh's push to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference. They are, after all, off to a red-hot 5-2 start.
