It hasn't been an easy season for Evgeni Malkin, as he has been dealing with injuries and his production totals have dropped, prompting Sidney Crosby to speak.

Sidney Crosby once again reached another milestone in his already legendary NHL career.
In the Penguins' 7-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres last Thursday night, Crosby notched his 80th point of the season to ensure that he will finish the year averaging at least a point per game for the 20th time.
That record breaks Wayne Gretzky's 19, with Crosby now holding the mark alone in NHL history.
In a similar consistent fashion, only two other Penguins players have come close to doing what Crosby achieved last week, and those two players are Mario Lemieux and Evgeni Malkin, with 15 seasons each averaging a point per game or better.

Malkin has had to unfortunately deal with injuries this season

Malkin has struggled this year, however, with injuries impacting his production. That being said, Crosby couldn't speak highly enough of his long-time teammate, crediting Malkin's amazing ability for elite-level play throughout his career.
"I see and understand how difficult it is. It's unbelievable that he's been able to do that."

When asked about his own record-breaking feat, Crosby pointed to his relentless work ethic as the key to his sustained success.
"Work ethic. You have to continue to get better and learn. Even after this long you have to continue to evolve and adjust."

The Penguins, who had lost three in a row, finally broke that streak Sunday afternoon when they welcomed the Ottawa Senators to PPG Paints Arena and beat them in a thrilling 1-0 overtime affair.
The Penguins will now turn their attention to the red-hot St. Louis Blues, but they have time to prepare for that game as it won't be until Thursday evening.
